Sira becomes Storage Facility for the Machinery Directive

Sira Becomes Storage Facility for the Machinery Directive

World-leading compliance body, Sira Certification, is now able to offer the facility to store technical files for manufacturers who need to comply with the Machinery Directive (Directive 2006/42/EC).

Manufacturers who are making products within the scope of the Machinery Directive should have already declared compliance to the directive from 29 December 2009.

This revised Directive requires the Technical Construction File (prepared by the manufacturer, or his authorised representative established within the European Union) to be stored at a location within the European Union. In the event of any enforcement actions by the authorities, the technical file must be made available for inspection.

For manufacturers not residing in the EU, this means the file must be stored with an ‘authorised representative’ or an organisation with storage facilities who can act as an authorised contact point.

Using Sira's Storage of Technical Files service, manufacturers will be able to show that they have complied with this part of the Directive by referring to Sira on their Declaration of Conformity.

Sira also offers expertise in checking the content of technical files for all for accuracy and assistance in compiling compliance information, for all manufacturers falling within the scope of the Directive.

In the event that your file is inspected by the authorities, this could provide confidence that you have fulfilled your obligations under the Directive, as the person who signs the declaration of conformity could be prosecuted should an incident involving incorrectly-approved equipment occur.
