We are the UK’s leading Notified Body (appointed by the UK Government) specialising in testing and certification of equipment intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Formerly part of the Sira Group, which was established in 1918, Sira Test and Certification Ltd (based in Chester, North West England) has developed into an organisation of unparalleled experience and expertise when it comes to products and people operating and working within potentially explosive atmospheres.

In our time, we have issued over 3000 product certificates, including over 1800 ATEX certificates since 1998, and are a leading certification body of IECEx certificates of conformity. Our clients range from small independent organisations to global multinationals, and our flexible approach to projects enables us to meet their requirements, despite the different needs of each organisation.

We are represented on relevant technical committees and working groups, and are present at leading events and exhibitions, always ensuring we inform the Ex Community about their requirements and responsibilities within Hazardous Areas.

In July 2009, Sira was acquired by CSA International, the testing and certification division of the CSA Group. As part of CSA International, Sira forms part of an international conformity assessment company with over 1400 employees and a network of offices and laboratories in 60 countries. Sira has access to expertise and testing/certification facilities specialising in environmental, hazardous location and safe area products.
