European Approvals for North American Clients

For manufacturers of Ex products based in North America, gaining entry into European Markets is now a cost effective and streamlined service, thanks to a range of services offered by Sira.

A Commercially Orientated Approach

By being commercially orientated, we are able to offer a service that meets the differing needs of our vast range of clients. One way we do this, particularly for North-American based clients, is to undertake regular engineer exchange programmes with North American certification bodies in order to foster technical and commercial relationships, and to understand their work ethic and processes.

We are also represented at major North American events and exhibitions, such as the ISO Expo in Chicago, and have U.S based Agents who are able to offer advice and support for our services.

Our certification engineers regularly attend technical meetings on-site, and some of our clients take advantage of our on-site certification service, whereby we carry out assessments and develop the assessment report during our time on-site. This drastically reduces project timescales and offers a fast-track certification process.

Reciprocal Agreements for European Approvals

Sira has developed reciprocal agreements with prominent North American certification bodies to offer a streamlined and efficient process for clients based in North America to gain entry into European markets.

Under these agreements, all test and assessment work can be conducted by the North American certification body (to European standards), who then compile an assessment report to ATEX requirements.

This report will then be delivered to Sira, who will check and accept the test data under the reciprocal agreement, with no additional testing required.

Sira will then issue an ATEX certificate in you name. An ATEX Quality Assurance Notification (QAN) may also be required and Sira can organise this for you.

The advantage of this route to certification is that all assessments are carried out in North America, making it easier for you to communicate with the certification body during the majority of the project.

This process also works for IECEx certification, enabling you to gain entry into other International Markets

The Alternative Approach

Sira can also help you meet your compliance needs by being the principle certification body for your approval projects. By dealing directly with Sira, we will test and assess the product and issue the relevant certificates and quality assurance notifications without involving other certification bodies. This may be a more attractive approach if you want a one-point-contact for your approval projects.

We have the flexibility to offer both of the above routes, and can advise you on the best approach dependant upon your needs and capabilities.
